About Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County, Inc.

Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County (Habitat), an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, built its first home in Little Rock in 1990. Over forty families in Pulaski County own homes built and financed with Habitat. More homes are under construction.

What's Habitat's Mission?

Habitat is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to put belief into action by working in partnership with God's people to create a decent habitat in which to live and work. Habitat's mission is to eliminate substandard housing while providing simple, decent housing to qualified low-income families. In addition to building homes, Habitat builds a spirit of community and cooperation among the volunteers, supporters and beneficiaries of the organization. Habitat partners with other community development organizations to rebuild neighborhoods. Habitat and Argenta Community Development Corporation are building and rehabilitating home in the HOLT neighborhood in North Little Rock. As a result of their activity, the City of North Little Rock recently built a children's park in this neighborhood.

Through tax-deductible donations of money and material, by utilizing volunteer labor and with the help of future homeowners, Habitat builds simple, decent, and affordable homes. Houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with no-interest mortgages. Homeowners invest their own labor, called "sweat equity," into building their home and the homes of other Habitat families. This makes monthly payments affordable. The no-interest mortgages are paid back into a revolving "fund for humanity" account which is used to build more homes in Pulaski County for eligible homeowners.
