Meet our new Executive Director: Bill Plunkett only recently realized that God had been preparing him over the course of his years to
take on the role of a lifetime – after retirement. “When the good Lord shows up, He shows up in a big
way,” he explained.

The Habitat for Humanity RV Care-A-Vanners traveled in their own
recreational vehicles to work with Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County,
October 10th through October 24th. Each Care-A-Vanner owned a motor home,
5th wheeler or travel trailer, in which they lived in for two weeks at
Maumelle Park. The Care-A-Vanners brought along tools, energy, and a spirit
of enthusiasm. The Care-A-Vanners are men and women from all walks of life.
They are usually married, retired individuals, ranging widely in age and
occupation, well skilled, many from the educational field. What they shared
was a commitment to eliminating substandard housing and a willingness to
learn and partner with the HFH Pulaski County affiliate and the future
homeowner family. Some of the Care-A-Vanners have worked together on
previous build projects in different parts of the country.
Kirk Simmins, lead Over the Hill Gang representative, and Bernie and Audrey
Ussery, Care-A-Vanner team leaders, planned and organized the 2004 Habitat
for Humanity of Pulaski County Care-A-Vanners blitz build. 2nd Presbyterian
Church sponsored a kick off dinner on Sunday, October 10th. Reverend Jim
Miller was the key speaker of the event. Greg Adams talked about the history
and formation of the Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County affiliate.
Hallie Simmins officially welcomed the Care-A-Vanners to Little Rock. 2nd
Presbyterian Church and Park Hill Presbyterian Church provided lunch for the
Care-A-Vanners and the Over the Hill Gang during the two-week build. They
were joined by the Electrical, Plumbers and Sheet Metal Unions in building
the house. The build was 85% complete when the RV Care-A-Vanners completed
their two-week commitment. The home would have been completed, but bad
weather on four of the ten work days was a big factor in slowing the
progress of the build. Channel 7's Jason Harper provided live coverage
during the two week build. Nuvell was the main financial sponsor for the
house.
Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County affiliate would personally like to
thank the 2004 Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vanners individually for all
their hard work:
- Bernie and Audrey Ussery, Lompoc, California
- Bob and Sarah Sanquist, Newton, Iowa
- Dan and Martha Biteman, Union City, Michigan
- Gary and Ellen Stigall, Livingston, Texas
- Jim and Joanne Froenke, Livingston, Texas
- Jim and Nada Berry, Marinette, Wisconsin
- Jim and Burma Anderson, Effingham, Illinois
- The Bitemans generously stayed over for an extra week to help complete
the build.
